Critics Consensus:Murdered Soul Suspect

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new murder mystery themed game Murdered:Soul Suspect!!
Murdered:Soul Suspect was announced at a very interesting time. A time where pretty much no new IP was being announced, Square Enix was in financial straits (again) and instead of churning out the 300th Final Fantasy game they banked on this made by the developers of such not so hits like Dark Void and the interesting but mediocre game that was supposed to "save" the Ouya. So it had to be good right?
Right? Not so much. While Murdered:Soul Suspect has had one of the most interesting plots for a video game in years (one in which you have to solve your own murder)  but the game is sadly very linear, short, and glitchy as described by Polygon,Joystiq, and GameInformer. Sure the script and characters are cool and interesting but the other things are really the meat in the pie which is why Murdered:Soul Suspect is disappointing for a game that got so much buzz.
Overall only get this if you want to.

Critics Consensus:Watch_Dogs

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Ubisoft's all new hacking IP Watch Dogs!!
Let's face it. E3 2012 was a bummer. No next gen console announcements, still very little information about the WiiU, and pretty much every game there was a sequel. And then Ubisoft had their conference and a wild Watch Dogs appeared which pretty much blew everyone's mind apart. And after 2 years it's finally out. Let's get into the good news and the bad about Watch Dogs.
OK so Watch Dogs isn't the big explosive epic that we saw at E3 although it does have it's moments. As Videogamer.com pointed out even key points in the trailer don't match with the final game. But let's cut to the chase now, is Watch Dogs a good game or not? Yes it has a 82 on Metacritic and despite from only getting 1 10\10 from a major publication it has been praised for it's unique and creative multiplayer modes, shooting mechanics, and great moments and setpieces. However the game has some dumb moments that even the parody show Clueless Gamer pointed out as everything is Chicago is connected by only one network.
Overall get this game.

Critics Consensus:God Of War Collection

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Playstation Vita version of God Of War!!! Well not really...
We know. The Vita is in desperate case of some good games that aren't Crossbuy\Remote Play titles or JRPGS. So when we first heard how Sony is going to reboot the Vita using games that we have already played and probably won't translate well to the portable experience, we were surprised. But hey a Vita game is actually out so we might aswell see if it's worth your time based on of course, The Critics Consensus!!!
Critics say that God Of War Collection is actually meant for the Playstation Vita instead of being a relentless cashgrab (cited:Hardcore Gamer Magazine). However some critics complained about the 30 dollar asking price as you can get the games cheaper at a thrift store or the Playstation classics selection. Another complaint is that players don't really need to experience the games again but hey when a Vita game has a 79 and there's really nothing else out there, you might aswell buy it.
Overall get this game if you want to.
God Of War Collection is rated M.

Critics Consensus:The Amazing Spider Man 2

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Spider Man video game!
Beenox's track record has been starting to fall apart lately. In 2011 they released Spider Man:Edge Of Time a rather generic uninspired take on Spidey's ventures. Believe it or not the highest score was a 6. Then 2012 rolled around and Beenox released yet another Spider Man game. While this one was definitely better than Edge Of Time it still wasn't up to par with the good ol Spidey days especially Spider Man 2 on the PS2. Will the new Amazing Spider Man 2 fill the niche? Let's find out.
Looks like The "ever so amazing" Spider Man has fallen to some bad reviews. In fact it's nearly up to par with the movie (post coming sunday) and has gotten some really piss poor statements from GameInformer,IGN and Gametrailers alike. Maybe it's the repetitive missions, clunky menus, and glitchy placement overall. Either way skip this spider.
Overall do not buy this game.
The Amazing Spider Man 2 is rated T.

Critics Consensus:LEGO:The Hobbit

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the next LEGO game!
The LEGO games have always suffered their fair share of problems. While LEGO Marvel Superheroes pales in comparison to LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars they still have their fair share of glitches, repetitivity, and sometimes a weak story. But will that all change with The Hobbit? Lets find out!!
LEGO The Hobbit has a 75 on Metacritic. So while it's not one of the LEGO games you should go out and buy this instant it has plenty of interesting features to keep you invested. Like side quests, puzzles, and locations! And since it's a LEGO game there's always gonna be a lot of awesome hidden easter eggs aswell. However the story seems disjointed as said by IGN and VideoGamer gave it a 6 for it's easy difficulty.
Overall only get this one if you want to.
LEGO:The Hobbit is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus:Infamous Second Son

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new super-powered behemoth Infamous:Second Son!
The long awaited reason to get a Playstation 4 is finally here but is it too ambitious? The reason I'm asking this is because Infamous:Second Son isn't like the other Infamous games. Instead of staying with one power and variants of that power, you get more and more powers over time such as smoke, concrete, neon and fire. Anyway Let's find out if it is.
Infamous Second Son is getting somewhat mixed reviews. Mostly critics such as VideoGamerTV are complaining about how the game introduces some of the powers late like the neon powers (6 hours in) and how it's somewhat repetitive. However it is a great game to get for your Playstation 4 and is definitely worth the money for the great voice acting, story, and graphics. Speaking of graphics the game has been praised for that the most as the Space Needle is beautiful from a view as well with the environments.
Overall get this game.
Infamous Second Son is rated T.

Critics Consensus:Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new zombie styled Ninja Gaiden!
It's obvious to think that Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is not going to be good. The other two Ninja Gaiden games Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3 have been lackluster almost to the point of piss poor and the developer of the game (Spark Unlimited) hasn't really had a good track record with busts like Lost Planet 3,Legendary, and Turning Point. Turns out all this research was pointless. You were right on the nail.
Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is another Lollipop Chainsaw. The combat isn't too bad and the art style can be pretty cool sometimes but it gets repetitive. The game uses crude dialogue that gets annoying very fast, and gets super hard super fast. Of course that super hard super fast is probably a sex joke somewhere in Yaiba. Now I get why IGN,VideoGamerTV,PlayUK and Gamesradar hated this game.
Overall do not get this game.
Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Metal Gear Solid 5:Ground Zeroes

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Metal Gear Solid 5!
A lot has come out of the very confusing reveal of Metal Gear Solid 5. We've learned that theres a new voice actor playing Snake,we've learned that it's being split into two games, and we've learned that the second one (The Phantom Pain) will not come out till the end of 2015. But hey! At least we get Metal Gear Solid right?
Kind of. Reviews on Ground Zeroes have kind of been mixed partly due to the fact that the whole game can be completed in less than 20 minutes on a speedrun and about 3 hours on a normal without sidequests playthrough. This wouldn't be that big of a deal to many people if the game wasn't 40 bucks. Some critics such as IGN and VideoGamerTV have parodied the controversy. The game is great, beautiful, innovative, and clearly shows us what Phantom Pain will offer. However when youre paying forty bucks all that stuff kind of falls down the drain.
Overall only get this if you want to.

Critics Consensus:Dead Rising 3:Chaos Rising

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the third piece of Dead Rising 3 DLC Chaos Rising!
It's easy to say that if you have bought a Season Pass for Dead Rising 3 it wasn't really worth it. The last two DLC's have had stupid plots, somewhat bad AI,and the feeling like they were slapped together at the last minute. This isn't what we hoped for as the AMAZING Dead Rising 2 also had AMAZING DLC called Case Zero but this is pretty formulaic. However there is a glimmer of hope. The new one isn't that bad.
It seems like the DLC's are getting better each episode but it's definitely not worth the money for all of them. This one unfortunately has a weak main character and uninteresting side quests but it does have some great actually fun to kill bosses and new unique weapons as stated by Meristation. Sadly that couldn't keep the average score from being a 6 out of 10.
Overall only get this if you want to.
Dead Rising 3:Chaos Rising is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Thief

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new ultra-reboot Thief!
It's easy to say that Thief is one of the biggest releases of the year for gamers and probably the first big hitter of the year. Thief and Metal Gear Solid are the two franchises that started the stealth genre in the late 90's but we haven't seen a new Thief entry in over a decade. It's easy to say that this isn't worth the wait (nothing really is for ten years) It's seems like this is the right time to have a new Thief come out as the next generation consoles have just hit but actually it's not. Because Thief is getting Resident Evil 6 type reviews if you know what I mean.
What I mean is that reviews are mixed all around the board. EGM gave it a 3.5 because of it's train wreck like plot course and climax and dumb dumb AI and Revision3 Games gave it a 6 due to it not being memorable and infuriating gameplay sections. But not all is lost for Thief. Eurogamer Italy said they would even go as far and say that this a GOTY nominee due to it's great setting and action but is that really enough to qualify for a 9? Sure there has to be some hiccups somewhere.
Overall rent this one and if you don't use Gamefly borrow it from a friend or something.
Thief is rated M.

Critics Consensus:The Last Of Us Left Behind

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new Last Of Us DLC!
Naughty Dog knocked The Last Of Us out of the park with a compelling story, interesting believable characters, and edge of your seat gameplay. It ended up getting perfect scores and making numerous GOTY's. However most critics felt like the ending was perfect and didn't need to be changed and the new DLC handles Ellies past and future. Judging by Naughty Dog's track record this will probably amazing as usual but you always gotta play it safe.
Nah I was just kidding with you. It's Naughty Dog and of course it's amazing. It's already got an 87 on Metacritic with critics praising it all around the board for it's environments and levels, chemistry between Ellie and Riley and an overall sense of unbreakable pace. It's no secret why this has an 87 and even though it's not as good as the original doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.
Overall get this game.

Critics Consensus:Dead Rising 3:Fallen Angel

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the second piece of Dead Rising 3 DLC!
Last time I covered the Dead Rising 3 DLC the DLC was more of the same and it wasn't looking good for the next DLC however Capcom Vancouver can back it up with an actually new character in the DLC. Critics complained about the character in the first one so can Fallen Angel bring the hype back to the Dead Rising DLC?
Nope. Sadly Fallen Angel isn't anything special. Just like the last DLC the new vehicles and weapons are nice but just like the last DLC there's cliches, a boring story, and an expensive price tag. This is what's probably going to be a good DLC series as this hasn't received a single positive review the highest being a low 6 from Destructoid.
Overall do not get this DLC.
Dead Rising 3:Fallen Angel is rated M.

Critics Consensus:The Lego Movie Videogame

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new The Lego Movie based Videogame!
Lego games have always had a certain amount of charm and a pedigree for being good ever since the open-world actually story-based Lego Batman 2. However all hasn't been perfect as now Lego games face their biggest villain yet. (Not Mr.Business) Movie based titles.
However The Lego Movie Videogame isn't all that half bad. Sure it doesn't have an open-world and is really repetitive and monotonous during some parts but the Lego particle effects and cutscenes from the actual movie keep the hype train going and make the film actually somewhat more enjoyable according to Post Arcade and Toronto Sun.
Overall get this game if you want to.

Critics Consensus:Fable Anniversary

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Hd remade Fable!
Fable was one of the big new IP's that showed what the original Xbox can do and one that to this day is still somewhat relevant. Yes Fable is a controversial franchise with some calling it a masterpiece and others calling it crap but Microsoft would agree to differ. The franchise has stood the test of time with 3 anthologies, and arcady kids version, and a new one coming to the Xbox One. But there also is one that we forgot about. The HD version that just came out today.
Like I said Fable is a somewhat controversial game with mixed reviews ranging from butt cancer to the secondcoming of Christ in all games but the original is usually the best and you think they would have fixed that. Right? Somewhat. GameInformer and IGN delivered 8 out of 10s and stated that it's the superb way to play the game. However it also got a batch of mediocre scores mostly in the 6 range from The Escapist and Eurogamer with them either complaining it's aged badly or that there are too many bugs or shoddy mechanics.
Overall only get this game if you want to.

Critics Consensus:Octodad:Dadliest Catch

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new sequel to the cult-classic indie hit Octodad!
Octodad was a huge hit back three years ago partly due to the success that the frustrating running game QWOP delivered. Now it's kind of a genre considering the popularized Surgeon Simulator game that came out 6 months ago. Now Octodad's coming back and while it doesn't have many improvements, I bet this game will make you laugh your ass off.
Octodad:Dadliest Catch is now a bombtastic game that explodes the Octodad series into new directions but at the same time it really can't be. It's pretty short but as critics as Polygon,Gamesbeat, and Digital Spy have said it doesn't overstay it's welcome and throwing crap around in a wedding is pretty dang fun.
Overall get this game.
Octodad:Dadliest Catch is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus:Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an upgraded next-gen version of the fem-fatale hit Tomb Raider!
Tomb Raider was one of the biggest hits of 2013. It was intense with action at every turn and had interesting gameplay and a strong female protagonist just to tie all the loose ends together. Now Lara Croft returns in an all new Definitive Edition which is set to mark the first next-gen representation of Lara. Let's find out if all is true to believe or if this is just a fraud with no noticeable changes.
Apparently Definitive Edition rocks hard scoring 9 out of 10's from IGN,Game Informer, and Gaming Trend. GameInformer has even said it's the must have next-gen game and while it may lack any noticeable improvements besides for graphically and amount of content, it's certainly a good game to play during the January drought of games.
Overall get this game if you want to.
Tomb Raider:Definitive Edition is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Dead Rising 3:Operation Broken Eagle

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Dead Rising 3 DLC in which you have to save the president!!
Dead Rising 3 was a flagship title on the Xbox One. It was a game that showed off the Xbox One's hardware in many ways such as the amount of zombies on the screen, and no load times. It also ended up selling up a million copies which is a pretty impressive number considering the way Capcom has been going lately. So what better way that to round that good up with a nice batch of DLC? Turns out that sours the deal rather than sweetening it.
Broken Eagle is an unneeded experience to the Dead Rising franchise. Unlike Case Zero this game while not necessarily buggy or bad looking is very bland and overly expensive. The campaign only lasts a few hours as VideoGamer.com put it and while the new vehicles and weapons are nice, the price point isn't enough to justify it.
Overall do not get this game.
Dead Rising 3:Operation Broken Eagle is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Assassin's Creed Liberation HD

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the remake of the acclaimed Vita game!
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD was a game that released two years ago set to bundle up the events of Assassins Creed 3 in a bow and boost Playstation Vita sales. The game was breathtaking and gorgeous with vast open worlds on the small screen. However since noone bought a Vita Ubisoft needs to their recoup their losses and what better than to release a digital HD (well not really) version?
Turns out it wasn't such a good idea in the first place. The game feels like it's slapped on at other consoles and has received no positive reviews because of this. It doesn't fix the problems the Vita version had either and looks like crap compared to other spectacular HD collections. IGN even gave it a 5. What can we say? Critics miss the naval combat.
Overall do not get this game.
Assassins Creed Liberation HD is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Don't Starve Console Edition

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the Tim Burton esque Minecraft like game Don't Starve and now it's on the PS4!
Don't Starve was a fun little quirky inventive Minecraft clone that garnered decent attention back in April. Many praised it for being a fun hard but innovative roguelike with more and more features to keep you going. When those quotes were said the game was still in Alpha. Now it's finally done and available on the PS4 but let's see if it will collapse like Takedown:Red Sabre was and is pushed out the door.
Thankfully not. While the PS4 version of Don't Starve doesn't add that many new features it does have fitting controls and it's also free. Such critics as Vandal Online and IGN have praised the tone the game sets and how the game throws things up the notch in a matter of seconds expecting you to catch up they also downsized the game saying it could be more rewarding as there really is no sense of accomplishment.
Overall pick this one up. It's not the killer app for the PS4 and you shouldn't get one just for this but it's a nice addition to an impressive library.
Don't Starve is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus:Assassins Creed 4:Black Flag-Freedom Cry

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today the new Assassins Creed DLC!
Last time Ubisoft delved deep into the DLC universe of Assassin's Creed it made The Tyranny Of George Washington for Assassins Creed 3. That was a weird one. The episodes were received mostly positive for their cool powers and gameplay but their were a lot of criticisms over the bonkers story and wonky AI. Now Ubisoft is dealing with DLC using an all new character. Let's see how this is.
As stated by Destructoid this is definitely better than the George Washington DLC by having a polished engine and world, a cool story, and interesting characters. Unfortunately it's a little bit dry for it's own good and seems small with little ideas or concepts too improve on. We can only find out till Episode 2 but right now
A)Buy this if you want to
B) Don't if you don't
It's just that simple.
Freedom Cry is rated M.
