Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Earth Defense Force game!
The original Earth Defense Force was a really quirky and not necessarily a great game but it sold well and became a cult classic really quick due to the reason that it was a budget title and had a great premise. Killing giant bugs that have taken over the world in Japan. Earth Defense Force has quickly become a ferocious franchise with sales in Japan being very very successful. However critics never usually take EDF seriously with a 6 score on average. The newest installment adds giant monsters though. Can all this change with a new gameplay mechanic? Let's find out.
Destructoid and Game Informer praised the game with 8 out of 10s and also saying it was great fanfare and used Japan culture to it's fullest but it's obvious that Earth Defense Force is not for everyone. It has a 68 average on Metacritic and The Escapist and Edge Magazine have given it painfully low review scores.
Overall only get this game if you like EDF or are eager to risk the 50 that you will spend on it.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Strider reboot!
Well here's a story of Capcom not pissing off fans for a change. Strider has now finally been rebooted but it's been a long treacherous adventure. The game was originally supposed to be a gritty reboot made by the guys who made that awful Bionic Commando reboot. After poor sales of that game Strider was cancelled. But fan forums, petitions, and requests have finally made this game a reality. Thanks is also in part to Double Helix the short lived kings of reboots ever since their acquisition from Amazon stopped them from making multi-platform games (guys behind the Killer Instinct reboot) So let's see how it is shall we?
Damn. Strider is a reboot everyone asked for and delivered pretty much what everyone asked for despite the occasional flaw. Strider brings the classic platforming and insane bosses to a new audience but keeping the pizazz that the older games had. This is a keeper ladies and gentlemen and with an average score of 8 out of 10 and praise from GameInformer, Polygon, and Destructoid for having great mechanics it looks like this is the reboot we always dreamed of.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new Last Of Us DLC!
Naughty Dog knocked The Last Of Us out of the park with a compelling story, interesting believable characters, and edge of your seat gameplay. It ended up getting perfect scores and making numerous GOTY's. However most critics felt like the ending was perfect and didn't need to be changed and the new DLC handles Ellies past and future. Judging by Naughty Dog's track record this will probably amazing as usual but you always gotta play it safe.
Nah I was just kidding with you. It's Naughty Dog and of course it's amazing. It's already got an 87 on Metacritic with critics praising it all around the board for it's environments and levels, chemistry between Ellie and Riley and an overall sense of unbreakable pace. It's no secret why this has an 87 and even though it's not as good as the original doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is all the Valentine's movies that come out this week.
Hey! So this is kind of a last minute thing here. I realized how many Valentines Days movies come out this week so I've decided to cover them all in a quick post and say which ones are worth your time. (if any)
Date & Switch:
The first one is Date & Switch a movie about virgins trying to "score" before prom and then one of them says he's gay. Obviously this isn't your typical Valentines Day movie and this one's only a limited release so let's check if it's actually a movie you should drive a little while to see. Turns out nope. This movie has gotten some positive reviews but mostly it's gotten not so shining ones because of it's uneven pacing, dated script and subject material, and overall somewhat pointless. There is some good aspects though but it's not that spread out in the film and mostly is lacking. Overall no.
Winters Tale:
Winter's Tale is the somewhat Cinderella generic story about some crappy love that spans a century or something. It's a last ditch effort by Warner Bros to get some money this Valentines Day and after the explosion of awesomeness that was The Lego Movie we expect better from them. It's a made for TV movie scrapped together and paper thin and that explains why it's gotten no positive reviews and a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch.
Endless Love:
The next one is some Romeo & Juliet type love story with the exact same score as Winter's Tale on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. You've got to be kidding me. Im done with this film. It's obvious I don't need to explain any more.
About Last Night:
Finally how long did it take to get to a somewhat decent Valentines movie? About Last Night may turn you off because the commercials feature people having sex in a chicken costume and getting caught and it also has Kevin Hart (who starred in the not so fantastic Ride Along). Believe it or not it's actually a decent romp with funny jokes that will leave you happy this Valentines Day. Or whenever this is being published.
Overall according to critics like Globe and Mail,Entertainment Weekly,Rolling Stone, and Village Voice who have pretty good opinions the only one is About Last Night. Other are pretty crap.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Robocop reboot!
It's the Hollywood's totally running out of ideas and has to make a reboot of an ancient 80's movie version of Critics Consensus. And this time we have the all new Robocop. Don't get me wrong this one actually has some potential but if it's anything we know about Robocop it's usually supposed to maintain a R rating due to it's grit and violence. But this time it's PG-13. And Hollywood screws things up yet again.
Ok maybe I overreacted there because of pure nostalgia but as we expected Robocop isn't an amazing film. It's not crap like Total Recall was but it's pretty weak and doesn't contain really any Robocop action with a crappy opening to tie things in a smelly effortless bow. Fortunately the last 30 so minutes is amazing according to ReviewsOnTheRun, San Francisco Chronicle, and Tampa Bay Times it's just that this movie could have used a little bit more time on the drawing board before being thrown out there.
