Critics Consensus:The Quiet Ones

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new horror movie that's got nothing different from other ones. Ugh another boring movie weekend.

A lot of recent PG-13 rated horror movies in the past few years have been total crap.  Remember House At The End Of The Street? Or The Apparition? Or The Possession? See what I mean? So the all new Quiet Ones is hitting theaters. Not this again.

The Quiet Ones is plagued with familiar elements tried in other movies, crappy effortless acting, nothing new, innovative or even remotely scary, and having a bad script. All these elements need to be good to make an essential horror movie and it's clear that The Quiet Ones was only made for a paycheck in peoples pockets. 39% on Rotten Tomatoes don't lie.

Overall do not see this movie.

The Quiet Ones is rated PG-13.

One Of The Worst:A Haunted House 2

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the sequel to A Haunted House!
No wonder it's One Of The Worst Time.

So A Haunted House 2 has a 13 on Metacritic right now which means it might be the lowest rated movie of the year. Considering it's already April that's pretty weak. But then again everything in this movie is weak. For example:

• It has gay jokes
• It has animal cruelty jokes
• Washington Post said it exceeded expectations even though they still gave it a 0
• Vulture called it a nervous breakdown of a movie
• 7M Pictures said it was worse than White Chicks which is known as one of the worst movies
• Filled with sex scenes and sex jokes

Ya so it's obvious that you shouldn't see this movie

A Haunted House 2 is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Oculus

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new horror movie Oculus!

It seems like every horror movie nowadays is using the tagline from the creators of Paranormal Activity in their poster. Maybe it's true but it seems like there is hundreds of "creators" of Paranormal Activity by now. But on with that the all new Oculus is in theaters by more "creators" Let's check if it's good or just plain not scary.

Luckily Oculus isn't half bad. It's got a 61 on Metacritic, and average score of 6.5 and a 71% on RottenTomatoes so it's not a bad way to spend 12 bucks. Trust us you can do much worse. Sure it could be a little bit more scarier in places and as the Newark Star Ledger said it's too vague and familiar but the best part about Oculus is that it messes with your head. That's what horror movies should do.

Overall see this movie.

Oculus is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Under The Skin

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new horror film with Scarlett Johanson? This could go either two ways.

Scarlett Johanson is now an alien? Preying hitchhikers in Scotland? And doing what to them? Even if the person who wrote this script is probably on acid, meth, and LSD combined lets find out why this is getting such good reviews.

It's got a 76 on Metacritic and an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's been praised for it's beautiful direction, hypnotic setting, and creepy and chilling acting. However it is probably going to mess with your brain as it is somewhat traumatizing. So apparently a movie with naked Scarlett Johansson is traumatizing. Thats not what I expected.

Overall see this movie if you want to.

Under The Skin is rated R.

One Of The Worst:I, Frankenstein

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Aaron Eckhart's Victorian Frankenstein reboot, I Frankenstein.

Godzilla is getting rebooted this year as well with Jurassic Park in the future and Frankenstein now. I Frankenstein is looking to be the first less than 10% score on RT of 2014 due to it's dumb CGI, cheesy acting, and no review press screenings. Well everything I just said is true and i'll just mention the fact that this has a 4% on RottenTomatoes.

Man I can predict the future! I Frankenstein is taken way too seriously as Reelviews stated, the makeup and costume design are some of the worst movies have to offer as Boston Globe said, and it's so bad it's laughable as the A.V. Club bellowed. Also it hasn't gotten a single positive review on Metacritic. I Frankenstein cant catch a break.

Overall do not see this movie.

I Frankenstein is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Devil's Due

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Devil's Due!

You may have heard of Devil's Due after the insanely viral video that triggered 20 million+ views in a couple of days of a viral animatronic demon baby in New York City. That video was actually for the movie Devil's Due and you mine as well think that with a great advertising campaign like that the movie would be pretty rock solid. Not so much.

It's only gotten one positive review (from The Playlist) who gave it an underwhelmingly low score with a 67. They stated that there were a lot of things that ruined the scares such as crappy character development. It's also got a nobody cast and The Guardian called it an Exorcist on Snapchat. Ow that hurts.

Overall do not see this movie.

Devil's Due is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Paranormal Activity:The Marked Ones

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new Paranormal Activity drag and this time it's a spinoff!

Paranormal Activity has been going downhill according to critics and some other fans but not box office numbers. The last Paranormal Activity (Paranormal Activity 4) was the second highest grossing film of October of all time but the new one titled The Marked Ones is a new spinoff for the series. If it took them four entries just to do that I can't imagine how many entries they will make after this.

According to critics such as Newsday,New York Times,New  York Daily News, and Washington Post the new Latino spinoff feel kind of refreshes the franchise in some way or form but in the end it's always going to be the cheap thrills you expect from a Paranormal Activity and nothing new. You're getting what you came for basically.

Overall do not see this movie.

Paranormal Activity:The Marked Ones is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Carrie

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new Carrie remake!

Stephen King is probably most known for his book Carrie which was actually made into a movie in the 80's. Well that movie has grown some mold and now a new Carrie is out. Let's check if it's any good.

Carrie boasts some intelligent and well deserving actors as RogerEbert.com said it isn't exactly pure gold. The actors are placed in awkward roles and the movie spends half of it's time trying to figure out what to do instead of actually trying it. Carrie is not a mess it just could be better and is overall a disappointment.

Overall only see this movie if you want to.

Carrie is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Insidious:Chapter 2

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the sequel to the 2011 horror hit that was Insidious!

The original Insidious should have been crap. It really should have been crap. It was written, directed, and produced from the same people that made such films as Paranormal Activity 2 and the SAW franchise. But the movie had many comical breaks, good acting and scares when you would not expect it. It became a hit. Now FilmDistrict wants to rank in some more cash with a popular name  but is it any good?
Insidious 2 is definitely not for everyone. Some critics such as Austin Chronicle and Time Out London gave it scores lower than a 20 and said that the movie was lazy stupid and incoherent. The film does have good acting and the scares that work are really scary and creepy unfortunately Insidious Chapter 2 does not reach to it's highest heights.
Overall only see this if you really want to.
Insidious:Chapter 2 is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Riddick

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new Riddick reboot!

Vin Diesel is now a powerhouse because of the Fast & The Furious franchise but before that he was known for such movies as Riddick and Saving Private Ryan. Now as Universal is rebooting Riddick let's see if it is maybe better than the original. (The original does not hold up that well)
Unfortunately not. While Riddick is not a horrible movie it is certainly not one to reinvigorate the franchise. Well Vin Diesel is still a badass as The Guardian stated the film's writing can get a little bit dry and bland with cheap special effects as Las Vegas Weekly said. Riddick is a meh movie.
So overall only see this if you really want to.
Riddick is rated R.

Critics Consensus:You're Next

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new horror movie called You're Next which is surprisingly getting good reviews.

Adam Wingard is known for his insanely low budget horror movies (one was only $2000 dollars) and they get a lot of attention at film's festivals. Now Lionsgate is giving him a chance and making sure that You're Next is a hit.
The trailer for You're Next is very very generic and you probably expect a 13%. However it has a 65 on Metacritic and a 79% on RottenTomatoes. You're Next is another Cabin In The Woods as Globe And Mail because it does not take itself too seriously, is very funny for a horror movie and actually has a decent amount of scares.
Overall see this movie.
You're Next is rated R.

Critics Consensus:The Conjuring

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Conjuring a new horror movie from the creators of Paranormal Activity.

The Conjuring has been getting really good reviews and a really good audience reception. It's Warner Bros new big horror hit. But that seemed weird because it's made from the SAW creators.
Well that does not matter because the Conjuring is that good. It's scary at every turn as ReviewsOnTheRun said and amazing acting as Time Out New York stated. The Conjuring might as well be this year's Cabin In The Woods.
Overall just see it.
The Conjuring is rated R.

Critics Consensus:This Is The End

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new apocalypse comedy filled with tons of stars from James Franco to Seth Rogen!

This Is The End has had an amazing promotion adventure. They were selling tickets with free "munchies" on 420 day and the commercials made the movie look hilarious. However with horrible comedies like Grownups overcrowding the market will This Is The End become one of those?
Surprisingly not. An 68 on Metacritic with an 86% to wrap it all in a fine pink little bow, This Is The End is one of the funniest movies this year. Even Rolling Stone said that you will think you are hallucinating that it is that good.
Overall see this movie This Is The End is one of the best comedies of the year. Go see it.
This Is The End is rated R.

Critics Consensus:The Purge

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new original horror movie called The Purge. Or is it?

The Purge is about a twelve hour period each year were all crime is legal. During that time a family tries to hide. The trailer looked interesting but does that happen with this movie? Let's enter the dangerous Purge and find out.

The good news about The Purge is that the plot is original. Everything else is pure crap filled with bad acting and horror movie cliches as Reviews On The Run said. They even gave it a 0.25! OUT OF 10!! Time Out New York also called it repetitive.

Overall only see this movie if you really really want to.

The Purge is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Scary Movie 5

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new Scary Movie. Well if you are thinking that this movie is good I have some news for you.

6% on Rotten Tomatoes. EVRAYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS! EVRAYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS! Seriously. The first Scary Movie was ok but now it is just a cashgrab and giving stupid celebrities like Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan more money.
If you see this movie you deserve to see this movie. Total idiots see this movie. Why? Well I don't even need to explain it but I guess I will. NO POSITIVE REVIEWS. NO MEDIOCORE REVIEWS FROM ANYONE. Even We Got This Covered explained that "If I ever have to watch another Scary Movie film, I'll give up on writing, cinema, and society forever." Well you might want to get the bullet now. Because this movie is not flopping like a fish gasping for air.
Overall 14 on Metacritic.
Scary Movie 5 is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus: Evil Dead

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the Evil Dead reboot!

The original Evil Dead was a hit because of it's little budget, being overwhelmingly scary, and suspenseful. Then every other Evil Dead movie was turned into a cashgrab with sequels and reboots. However Sam Raimi (of Spider-Man fame) wants to fix that and make this movie up to par with the original.

Let's start with the negatives and get that out of the way. Evil Dead is gruesome. In some ways worse than Dredd 3D. It is horribly graphic with skin ripping and rape. However it is more shocking than scary. You are gonna need a barf bag, but not sleeping pills. The acting is good as ReviewsOnTheRun said, especially the performance from Mia. Slate praised the script too. The only problem is that you have too know what you are walking into. Please do not blame me.

Overall see this movie if you want to. It is a good movie it's just that I dont want you having nightmares for the rest of your life.

Evil Dead is rated R.

Critics Consensus: The Last Exorcism Part II

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the sequel to The Last Exorcism.

The Last Exorcism was one of the last good horror movies before Paranormal Activity killed everything into shaky cam. It was original and gripping. Nothing was better than it. Well some Hollywood Executives are in their pool drinking their martini's saying "goddamn we are so smart."

The acting is okay and that's all The Last Exorcism Part II has going for it. Slant Magazine complained about the horrible dialogue and Movie Nation said that the movie was worse than The Devil Inside. Really? It's that bad? Ok we'll I think we need a SWAT Team to get all these viewers of the movie out now.

Overall do not see this movie. I COMMAND YOU!

The Last Exorcism Part II is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Stoker

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new horror movie with Nicole Kidman.

I have good news and bad news for you. Stoker is a great movie. Well not exactly great compared to Argo but I'm hoping for another 2012 where all the good movies come out in the end. The bad news is that this is the only good movie that comes out this week. That was a bit stupid to think Jack The Giant Slayer and 21 And Over would be good movies but whatever.

Stoker does not have the best writing as explained by The Boston Globe but the acting is amazing and the film's scares are worth the whole experience. Hey Empire gave the film a 100\100 and they are pretty hard critics to impress. Maybe a 69% does not mean too much.

Overall see this movie.

Stoker is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Dark Skies

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new horror movie from the creators of Paranormal Activity and Insidious. Both of those aren't very good so...

"From the creators of Paranormal Activity" is the new tagline for every movie out there. They probably are not lying it's just they probably mean the guy who was the brother of the guy who wrote the movie or the janitor for the stages. Trust me. I knew this when I saw the tagline for Space Chimps.

This movie is not horrible with a 31% because nothing is worse than A Good Day To Die Hard, Movie 43 or any other piece of crap that came out in the past few weeks. The New York Post called it a little scary, and Alfonso Duralde said that the script was smart, but the acting fails on every level and you have to genuinely be a horror movie buff to enjoy this.

Overall only see this if you want to.

Dark Skies is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus: John Dies At The End

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is John Dies At The End a new indie horror film.

John Dies At The End has been getting a lot of reception because of it's interesting title, interesting plot and interesting development process. The film was made on literally the cost of a lunch at Starbucks. Somehow they got Paul Giamatti in there.

John Dies At The End is about a drug that an out of body experience with each hit. Two friends try it out and well I think the title already spoiled it for you a little bit. It's is not the greatest movie with a 57 on both fronts (Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes) but as The New Movie Thing Show said it's a good movie to brighten up your day.

Overall see this movie if you want to.

John Dies At The End is rated R.
