Critics Consensus: Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new Kingdom Hearts game!
A new Kingdom Hearts game has been shoved into our faces and it has an alliteration at the end that does not make any sense. Thankfully that does not effect the quality of the game even though the plot is confusing which was stated by ReviewsOnTheRun,NintendoWorldReport, and GameOver.gr. Luckily there was only one negative review out of 31 reviews which was by Metro Game Central which was burning on the game because of it's script. Most critics have stated that that is the weakest part of the game but keep in fact that ReviewsOnTheRun said it was the most beautiful looking game on the 3DS and it is one of Gaming Age's favorite games on the 3DS because of the gameplay, voice acting, level design and visuals and pretty much 60% of the critics said that also because it's got a 77 on Metacritic. Good job Kingdom Hearts.
Overall you should get this game if you are a Kingdom Hearts fan but it is hard to recommend to newcomers if the series because of it's confusing plot.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is rated E10+.

My Personal Opinion: Spelunky

NOTE: This is different than the posts we have on this blog because instead of the critics opinion this is my opinion. This time it is Spelunky.
Before I played Spelunky I looked at the credits and found out the game was only created by 5 people. Nevertheless, I thought I was bound to be impressed. Spelunky is a breath of fresh air. It is one of the most addictive games I have played in a while and one of the hardest. Spelunky is the most fun I have had with a game that it mega hard and while Rayman Origins had me cursing and wanting to throw my controller (I don't  think that Rayman Origins is a bad game just a very hard one.) Spelunky has me cursing and then for some reason laughing. Laughing because I accidentally pressed B instead of X so I threw a bomb at the shopkeeper and he thought i was a terrorist so he killed me. Spelunky also has an impressive art style and gameplay mechanics and it's Deathmatch mode is some thing to really jump into. The only thing I hate about Spelunky is no online multiplayer which makes me sad because then everybody would be playing this fabulous game.
Overall I give this game a 8.5 out of 10.

Critics Consensus: Step Up Revolution

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Step Up Revolution another Step Up movie! (Yay........)
Bob: "So another Step Up movie is coming out this week".
Bill (Reading The Newspaper): "Oh that's cool".
Bob: .............
Bill: "Hang on a second Step Up? They are making another movie to that mediocre franchise"!
That's how I reacted when I heard this movie was coming out. Well the critics agree with me too. A 33% on Rotten Tomatoes does not lie. Globe And Mail said Delivers plenty of spectacular fancy footwork in what is otherwise a flat-footed fantasy. CinemaLogue.com said that it was aggressively stupid and incoherent.
Overall looks like there's another piece of crap on Fridays plate. Yay....

Step Up Revolution is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus: The Watch

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Watch a new sci-fi comedy.
Once in a while a semi big release for the movie industry gets a 20% or lower on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately that is the case with the new sci fi comedy called The Watch. In fact The Watch is so disgusting that The New York Daily News compared it to Howard The Duck which has a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. Slightly higher than this piece of crap. The Toronto Star stated that The Watch is a predictable and lazy comedy wrapped around a penis joke occasionally enlivened with some funny lines.
Overall so stardom and a 70 million budget could not help this movie. Lets throw it in the garbage disposal.

The Watch is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Wreckateer

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Wreckateer a new downloadable Kinect game.
Microsoft usually delivers strong downloadable titles for their promotional sales like Summer Of Arcade. Kinect has not gotten the best critical reception and while Wreckateer is not a wreck it is better than slightly mediocre. Most critics called the game a good Kinect game but not a good game overall for example Vandal Online and Eurogamer Spain stated that in their review. The problems about Wreckateer is that the level design needs to be better as well with the clunky Kinect controls as GameRevolution and Mondo Xbox exclaimed.  So if you can not control a game what is there to it?
Overall do not get this game but if you have a Kinect and only used it to play Dance Central you should get this.

Wreckateer is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus: Ruby Sparks

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Ruby Sparks a new indie comedy.
The phrase Ruby Sparks can mean virtually anything. Ruby sparks in the sky, some one named Ruby spontaneously combusting, some one named Ruby having a great idea and many many more. Luckily this film is not one of the bad definitions to the movie's title. Ruby Sparks is not amazing per-say but just good enough to get a 68 on Metacritic and almost a 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. The AV Club praised the script and so did the Newark Star Ledger. The best thing that critics loved about Ruby Sparks was it's genuine sweetness. Even though IndieWIRE also cherished the acting TIME thought it was week and The New York Observer did so too. I guess everybody can not be happy.
Overall you should go see this movie. You will love it.'
Ruby Sparks is rated R.

Critics Consensus: 30 Beats

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is 30 Beats a new romantic comedy.
Remember when I wrote about the movie Virginia which was donkey crap? Well we have got another piece of donkey crap got published by a studio and now I have to talk about it. I present to you a movie with a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 20% on Metacritic, 30 Beats! amNewYork called the "screenwriting lame" and hated the performances while Slant Magazine called the characters one dimensional and lastly Village Voice gave it a 0 out of 10 and called it absolutely terrible!
Overall never see this movie or you will be screwed.

30 Beats is rated R.

Critics Consensus: The Dark Knight Rises

NOTE: The My Personal Opinion: The Dark Knight Rises will be delayed a couple of weeks because of the Aurora TDKR massacre. R.I.P: For the victims that we killed during the atrocity.
NOTE: This post will be more complicated then previous one's because this is a giant release for the movie industry. So why not have a giant post?
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Dark Knight Rises the final movie in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
Plot:
The Denver Post praised the emotional arc in the story and Aisle Seat also praised the ending. Though through all the positive reception Empire complained about less surprises as the first 2 movies even though they gave the film a 10 out of 10. So while the plot may lack the most originality it still holds up in movie standards.
Acting:
Most critics praised the directors work but The New York Daily News praised Christian Bale's work and they gave it a 8.0. One complaint came from USA Today which gave it a 75 saying that Tom Hardy's performance as Bane was not as good as Heath Ledgers performance which makes sense because Heath Ledger won an Oscar for that role. One of the most positive quotes was praising Joseph Gordon Levitt's performance as John Blake. So all acting in this movie is great.
Special Effects:
The only very negative review was from The New York Observer who complained about the IMAX. Other than that no reviews praised the special effects but praised that there was little special effects and for example a plane falling out of the sky fighting scene was all real.
Overall:
Overall you should go see this movie. You will want to see it again.

Critics Consensus: Heroes Of Ruin

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Heroes Of Ruin a new 3DS game!
The 3DS is slowly bringing every genre of video games to it's consoles and the new one on the menu is a RPG. It's called Heroes Of Ruin and the problem is it is not a excellent dish. Besides getting a few compliments from critics especially from Nintendo Power who said it was the closest to a Diablo like experience, the biggest fault for Heroes Of Ruin though is that it is standard. EGM  called the combat unoriginal as well as RPG Fan who wanted it to be thoughtfully designed. One of the most impressive things about this game is the multiplayer which GamingXP said it was how  it should work on the 3DS.
Overall pretty much every critic gave this game a 7.0 so if you want it I guess you can get it but there will be a few disappointments along the ride.

Heroes of Ruin is rated T.

Critics Consensus: Dyad

NOTE: In the Critics Consensus Preview: The Dark Knight Rises I stated that the movie and the post will come out Wednesday. The movie actually comes out on Friday so the post will be delayed. I really hate Entertainment Tonight.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Dyad a new downloadable indie title for the PS3.
Games are getting really good or something because another game just got 4 9 out of 10's in a row. That game is Dyad. GamesBeat loved Dyad's addictiveness while Playstation LifeStyle praised that it was not very expensive. Game Informer called Dyad entertaining,Joystiq praised it's visual design and gameplay too. Dyad is amazing. Everybody owning a PS3 should at least look into this game because it deserves it.
Overall get this game. In fact get it right now.
Dyad is rated E.

Critics Consensus Preview: Critics Consensus: The Dark Knight Rises

So on Wednesday the Dark Knight Rises comes out since it is such a big release and no other movies come out that I need to cover this week, I thought I could do a little preview of The Dark Knight Rises post that is in production.
Movies very rarely get a 90+ on Metacritic and even rarer for a wide release movie. The Dark Knight Rises is just that. It also has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and the score is actually getting higher.
I am mega excited for this movie so I wanted to say it's scores and as a little preview for the post.

Critics Consensus: Quantum Conundrum

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Quantum Conundrum the spiritual successor to Portal.
When Portal 2 was released in 2011 it had critical acclaim from every single critic. So when a game comes out directed by the person who had a main part on working the original Portal we hope that it will be amazing. Thankfully yes. Even though Gaming Nexus complained about the story and writing, Critics were also loving the game left, right, and center-field. Official Xbox Magazine UK praised it's addictive-ness while Gamereactor Sweden stated it had clever puzzles. The best thing about Quantum Conundrum is it's gameplay. And while it does not have the best story if you loved Portal 2 you will love this.
Overall get this game but if you do not want to get it that is fine.

Quantum Conundrum is rated E.

Critics Consensus: Ice Age: Continental Drift

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Ice Age: Continental Drift the latest Ice Age movie.
Ice Age is a 10 year old franchise and it goes how most movie franchises go. First one is a great movie, second one is OK, third one is mediocre, and the fourth one is crap. Well guess what? We are at the fourth one. Slant Magazine magazine was the most negative on Ice Age 4 with a 12 out of 100 saying that it caters to the Duplo Blocks demographic and parents will be bored to distraction. Village Voice jumped in the negative review pile to saying that the best parts of the movie are few and far between which are the Scrat scenes. One of the only slightly positive reviews was Tampa Bay Times praising the movies villain. Lastly ScreenCrush said it felt like Ice Age 1.4 not Ice Age 4.
Overall do not see this movie but if you have kids bring them to it but be sure to have something to do at the theater because then you will be bored to death.

Ice Age: Continental Drift is rated PG.

Critics Consensus: Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure a new music game for the 3DS.
Sega is taking new routes after the Sonic series has not been selling the best it should have had. They stopped console production in 2004 after the Dreamcast selling horribly but 8 years later Sega took a dip in the music side of gaming. Meet Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure a new music game that is being critically acclaimed by critics. Eurogamer Sweden said that it liked the game so much it wanted a sequel. Almost every critic liked the game in some way except for Gameplanet who gave it a 5.5 saying that they hated the story though at the same time 3DJuegos said it had a entertaining story. The most impressive thing about this game from critics statements was the addictiveness of it even though it's short and the story is a convoluted mess.
Overall get this game but if you don't want to get it you can wait for it to go on sale. Nevertheless you will love it when you get it.

Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus: The Do-Deca-Pentathlon

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is The Do-Deca-Pentathlon a new indie comedy centering around the Olympics.
Even though the title for this movie does not make any sense, the reviews have been pretty decent. The film has a very interesting plot. During a family reunion two brothers battle it out in a makeshift Olympics. Most critics called the film really funny including the New York Times. The most praised thing about the movie was the emotional drama even though it was a comedy. You can clearly see that in Common Sense Media's review. The only very negative review were from Slant Magazine and The New York Post but hey most of the reviews were positive.
Overall see this movie if you want and do not see it if you do not want to see it.

The Do-Deca-Pentathlon is rated R.

Critics Consensus: NCAA Football 13

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is NCAA Football 13 the newest NCAA football video game!
Every year there is a franchise related to sports that has yearly installments. Madden NFL, FIFA, Cabbela's, and WWE but don't forget NCAA Football. NCAA Football 13 has a 8.75 from Game Informer which called it a key moment in the franchise's history. In fact all the reviews for NCAA Football 13 has been a 8.0 or higher except for Joystiq who gave it a 6.0. Hang on a sec that's just one critic out of 8 reviews. So basically the average critics consensus is this is great. Even ZTGameDomain said NCAA Football 13 gets so many things right it's impossible not to fault it too much.
Overall get this game if you don't have NCAA Football 12, do not get it if you just don't care, and do not get it if you do have NCAA Football 12 unless you are a NCAA Football fan.

NCAA Football 13 is rated E.

My Personal Opinion: The Amazing Spider-Man

NOTE: This is different than the posts we have on this blog because instead of the critics opinion this is my opinion. This time it is The Amazing Spider-Man.
Spider Man is one of my least favorite superheroes so I was skeptic to see this. I saw it anyway and I have to say the movie is not that bad. The acting is regular acting you would see in every movie but I felt that Dennis Leary and Martin Sheen's performances were the best. The biggest complaint I have is that The Amazing Spider Man starts so slow and then after 45 minutes you are like "THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER. OMG OMG OMG OMG OM-" and then it ends. The last complaint I have is that The Lizard CGI in the movie looks horrible and not in a good way. The rest of the movie is good but I feel like if you are going to reboot the Spider Man franchise it has to be a little better than this.
Overall The Amazing Spider-Man is getting a 7.0 from me.

Critics Consensus: Spelunky

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Spelunky a new indie platformer.
A few years ago a game came out that was hilariously hard but had a certain charm to it that most games did not have. That game was Super Meat Boy. It was a platformer and was critically acclaimed. It was also a port. Well a game has come out that is similar to Super Meat Boy but is still wowing critics every where except for Gamesbeat and 4Players.de who hated Spelunky because they said it was too hard. Gamesbeat should talk to Gamesradar, Polygon, and Eurogamer who gave the game a 10 out of 10. If Spelunky is frusturating you should look at all the other frustrating platformers like Splosion Man, Ms. Splosion Man, and Super Meat Boy because Spelunky is just as good as those maybe even better as critics say. Even Destructoid said to miss on Spelunky is to miss on a incredibly satisfying  well-designed game.
Overall get this game. This is a game to keep in the essential XBLA collection.

Spelunky is rated T.

Critics Consensus: Savages

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Savages the newest movie by famous director Oliver Stone.
It's funny when a film get's totally mixed reviews ranging from the lowest of the low to the highest of the high. For some reason that happened to the  movie that came out this Friday, Savages which is getting what I just stated is somewhat OK. Salon.com had the most interesting metaphor for what Savages is saying that it was like dinner made by a 7 year old. Reviews On The Run's Victor Lucas hated the movie saying that it was stupid while the New York Magazine called the film impressive. Also when I meant the lowest of the low I really meant that. The San Francisco Chronicle gave the film a 0 while it still holds a 62 on Metacritic.
Overall if you want to see Savages see it but Oliver Stone has done a big disappointment to his fans because this should have been as good as Scarface,Dave and Midnight Express.

Savages is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Test Drive:Ferrari Legends a new racing game using the Ferrari license.
Game Informer, IGN, and Official Xbox Magazine are very popular critics. So when a game gets a bad score from those critics you know something is wrong. Even though IGN actually said Test Drive does a masterful job at showing the evolution in car designs over the years, the biggest fault about Test Drive though is that it has an over-difficult campaign. In fact every critic complained about it. The worst comment from a review though was Game Informer saying it was a sub-zero game that appeases to nobody.
Overall do not get this game. If you love Ferrari's and simulation take this for a rent.

Test Drive: Ferrari Legends is rated E.

Critics Consensus: Katy Perry: Part Of Me

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Katy Perry:Part Of Me a new movie about Katy Perry.
Ever since Justin Bieber walked the Earth the barrage of musical star based documentaries have followed in. Katy Perry: Part Of Me has gotten OK-meh reviews but the reception has been better than Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Hey even Entertainment Weekly said that it works hard to prove it's more than a glorified infomercial. What's impressive about Part Of Me is that critics liked it besides that one of the most negative reviews was Little White Lies who called the movie pretty dull. The only big complaint about the movie was the 3-D which Film Journal International called unnecessary.
Overall Katy Perry:Part Of Me is not a movie that you should see, but if you are a Katy Perry fan or a music fan you will find this really interesting.

Katy Perry: Part of Me is rated PG.

Critics Consensus: Take This Waltz

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Take This Waltz a new drama comedy.
Well good news for people searching for a good romantic comedy. The time has come. Take This Waltz has received great critical acclaim with a 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The acting was praised by HitFix and ReelTalk and those critics praised  Michelle Williams acting. Bullz-Eye.com praised the directing among other things. One of the only big complaints about Take This Waltz is that it has casual pacing as Globe And Mail said.
Overall see this movie. You will love it.

Critics Consensus: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Theatrhythm Final Fantasy a new music game celebrating Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary.
Final Fantasy has changed a lot over the years. Similar to last year's Sonic Generations, Theatrythm Final Fantasy is looking back at all the Final Fantasy games through the power of music. Big surprise, because every review has a positive score. Gaming Age called it insanely addicting. Polygon loved it. IGN loved it. EGM loved it. Seriously you will love this game. The only complaint in the reviews were IGN who called the RPG elements wasted.
Overall get this game. If you are not a Final Fantasy fan it will still be fun though.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus: The Amazing Spider-Man

NOTE: This post will be more complicated then previous one's because this is a giant release for the movie industry. So why not have a giant post?
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is The Amazing Spider Man the newest movie in the Spider-Man franchise.
Plot:
The Charlotte Observer said that the plot and and action stay right in balance in a good way,and The Chigaco Times praised that the story was told with detail even though everybody in the world knows the origin story of Spider-Man. Some critics hated the plot such as the Boston Globe who gave the only negative review saying that it was uninspired with a 38. So Spidey's story is here once another time but it is not overwhelming mediocrity.
Acting:
Empire and NPR praised Andrew Garfield's acting as Spider-Man. Empire did also praise Spider Man's love in the movie which is Emma Stone. Lastly The Boston Pheniox said that the supporting cast was good even though they thought the movie was crap.
Special Effects:
Culture Catch loved the 3-D and so did Time Out. Most critics did not really talk about the movie's special effects or 3-D but according to Time Out and Culture Catch it is though.
Overall:
Spider Man's newest adventure is better than Spider Man 3 but does not live up to the expectations of 2002's Spider Man. If you are a comic book fan you will probably love this movie and if you do not like comics you will like this movie. So go see this movie though you may be rolling your eyes at a certain scene in the movie.

Trailer:

The Amazing Spider Man is rated PG-13.
