Critics Consensus:Octodad:Dadliest Catch

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new sequel to the cult-classic indie hit Octodad!
Octodad was a huge hit back three years ago partly due to the success that the frustrating running game QWOP delivered. Now it's kind of a genre considering the popularized Surgeon Simulator game that came out 6 months ago. Now Octodad's coming back and while it doesn't have many improvements, I bet this game will make you laugh your ass off.
Octodad:Dadliest Catch is now a bombtastic game that explodes the Octodad series into new directions but at the same time it really can't be. It's pretty short but as critics as Polygon,Gamesbeat, and Digital Spy have said it doesn't overstay it's welcome and throwing crap around in a wedding is pretty dang fun.
Overall get this game.
Octodad:Dadliest Catch is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus:Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an upgraded next-gen version of the fem-fatale hit Tomb Raider!
Tomb Raider was one of the biggest hits of 2013. It was intense with action at every turn and had interesting gameplay and a strong female protagonist just to tie all the loose ends together. Now Lara Croft returns in an all new Definitive Edition which is set to mark the first next-gen representation of Lara. Let's find out if all is true to believe or if this is just a fraud with no noticeable changes.
Apparently Definitive Edition rocks hard scoring 9 out of 10's from IGN,Game Informer, and Gaming Trend. GameInformer has even said it's the must have next-gen game and while it may lack any noticeable improvements besides for graphically and amount of content, it's certainly a good game to play during the January drought of games.
Overall get this game if you want to.
Tomb Raider:Definitive Edition is rated M.

One Of The Worst:I, Frankenstein

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Aaron Eckhart's Victorian Frankenstein reboot, I Frankenstein.
Godzilla is getting rebooted this year as well with Jurassic Park in the future and Frankenstein now. I Frankenstein is looking to be the first less than 10% score on RT of 2014 due to it's dumb CGI, cheesy acting, and no review press screenings. Well everything I just said is true and i'll just mention the fact that this has a 4% on RottenTomatoes.
Man I can predict the future! I Frankenstein is taken way too seriously as Reelviews stated, the makeup and costume design are some of the worst movies have to offer as Boston Globe said, and it's so bad it's laughable as the A.V. Club bellowed. Also it hasn't gotten a single positive review on Metacritic. I Frankenstein cant catch a break.
Overall do not see this movie.
I Frankenstein is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Dead Rising 3:Operation Broken Eagle

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Dead Rising 3 DLC in which you have to save the president!!
Dead Rising 3 was a flagship title on the Xbox One. It was a game that showed off the Xbox One's hardware in many ways such as the amount of zombies on the screen, and no load times. It also ended up selling up a million copies which is a pretty impressive number considering the way Capcom has been going lately. So what better way that to round that good up with a nice batch of DLC? Turns out that sours the deal rather than sweetening it.
Broken Eagle is an unneeded experience to the Dead Rising franchise. Unlike Case Zero this game while not necessarily buggy or bad looking is very bland and overly expensive. The campaign only lasts a few hours as VideoGamer.com put it and while the new vehicles and weapons are nice, the price point isn't enough to justify it.
Overall do not get this game.
Dead Rising 3:Operation Broken Eagle is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Assassin's Creed Liberation HD

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the remake of the acclaimed Vita game!
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD was a game that released two years ago set to bundle up the events of Assassins Creed 3 in a bow and boost Playstation Vita sales. The game was breathtaking and gorgeous with vast open worlds on the small screen. However since noone bought a Vita Ubisoft needs to their recoup their losses and what better than to release a digital HD (well not really) version?
Turns out it wasn't such a good idea in the first place. The game feels like it's slapped on at other consoles and has received no positive reviews because of this. It doesn't fix the problems the Vita version had either and looks like crap compared to other spectacular HD collections. IGN even gave it a 5. What can we say? Critics miss the naval combat.
Overall do not get this game.
Assassins Creed Liberation HD is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the return of Tom Clancy films!
Even though Tom Clancy has passed away (R.I.P) countless movies and games will be made in his honor. We haven't had a Tom Clancy movie in a while and hopefully this marks the triumphant return after his sadly passing let's find out. Also its got Chris Pine.
Thankfully Shadow Recruit isn't one of the more crappy movies that comes out this month although it's not amazing in any particular regard. It's suspenseful and engaging but a tad bit over the top for it too stumble a little. It doesn't but that doesn't mean it's exactly a critical darling with a 61%.
Overall see this movie if you want to.
Jack Ryan:Shadow Recruit is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Devil's Due

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Devil's Due!
You may have heard of Devil's Due after the insanely viral video that triggered 20 million+ views in a couple of days of a viral animatronic demon baby in New York City. That video was actually for the movie Devil's Due and you mine as well think that with a great advertising campaign like that the movie would be pretty rock solid. Not so much.
It's only gotten one positive review (from The Playlist) who gave it an underwhelmingly low score with a 67. They stated that there were a lot of things that ruined the scares such as crappy character development. It's also got a nobody cast and The Guardian called it an Exorcist on Snapchat. Ow that hurts.
Overall do not see this movie.
Devil's Due is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Wii Fit U

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Wii Fit U!
Wii Fit was necessarily a hit because of the all new Balance Board gimmick and the Wii selling like hotcakes at the time but it feels like no one really wants a new Wii Fit. It's not like Nintendo can never knock anything out of the park but Wii Party U was also a sequel and received lukewarmly so let's check it out.
A lot of people (critics and Nintendo fans alike) find it weird that Nintendo is putting resources into a Wii Fit instead of a new WiiU IP. Wii U Fit is not a bad game in any point or means and there are some enjoyable parts but overall it's more of the same as critics such as GamesRadar and MetroGameCentral have said. You also have to buy a Balance Board so it's 90 bucks. Now I know why Polygon gave it a 4.5\10.
Overall only get this if you really want to.
Wii Fit U is rated E.

Critics Consensus:Don't Starve Console Edition

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the Tim Burton esque Minecraft like game Don't Starve and now it's on the PS4!
Don't Starve was a fun little quirky inventive Minecraft clone that garnered decent attention back in April. Many praised it for being a fun hard but innovative roguelike with more and more features to keep you going. When those quotes were said the game was still in Alpha. Now it's finally done and available on the PS4 but let's see if it will collapse like Takedown:Red Sabre was and is pushed out the door.
Thankfully not. While the PS4 version of Don't Starve doesn't add that many new features it does have fitting controls and it's also free. Such critics as Vandal Online and IGN have praised the tone the game sets and how the game throws things up the notch in a matter of seconds expecting you to catch up they also downsized the game saying it could be more rewarding as there really is no sense of accomplishment.
Overall pick this one up. It's not the killer app for the PS4 and you shouldn't get one just for this but it's a nice addition to an impressive library.
Don't Starve is rated E10+.

Critics Consensus:Lone Survivor

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Lone Survivor a new action movie based off of an epic Navy Seal story!
Lone Survivor was one of the new more aspiring movies of 2014. It's about Marcus Lutrell's Navy Seal story in which he had to hunt down a wanted terrorist with 3 other seals. He was the Lone Survivor as the movie says. A helicopter was even sent after him with 16 people but was shot down. Now a new movie is coming out based off of his story. However it's made from the guy who directed Battleship even though it has actors such as Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch. Let's check if it butchers the story.
It doesn't thankfully but it's not a Full Metal Jacket or even a Saving Private Ryan. It's not generic and has enough to keep you going but it's a little bit shallow. The movie is gripping but some scenes are loose and confusing which might affect your viewpoint of the movie. However its still an exasperating story none the less.
Overall see this if you want to.
Lone Survivor is rated R.

One Of The Worst:The Legend Of Hercules

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new Hercules movie that no-one cares about.
The Legend Of Hercules came out of nowhere and it wasn't generally received well. It felt like a little bit of deja-vu after Ryse:Son Of Rome and no-one thought it was going to be good in anyway. Well news flash. They were right.
Just like last year started off with a stinker with Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D this year has another. Legend Of Hercules is pale and tedious in every way possible from the script to the generic acting and even the setting. And if you don't believe me see the horrid reviews and a 4%. Yep. That's right.
Overall stay away from this one.
The Legend Of Hercules is rated R.

Critics Consensus:NES Remix

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new way to play your classic Nintendo games on the HD screen!
NES Remix was one of the plentiful ambitious game announcements from the latest Nintendo Direct. It was also bundled with Hyrule Warriors,Kirby Triple Deluxe,Yoshi's New Island, and Dr.Luigi. The problem is the big surprise of the night Hyrule Warriors won't come out until late 2014 so we really have nothing to keep us busy as no new games pretty much come out this month. So let's take a look at NES Remix. Let's see if it's worth your time.
Unlike Super Mario 64,Goldeneye 64,Metal Gear Solid, and Starcraft NES games somewhat stand the test of time. You can still find fun in classics like Contra and Jackal. Unfortunately most of these titles aren't given any HD treatment. So NES Remix is here to help. NES Remix is pure nostalgia and in that regard it shines as plenty of critics such as Destructoid,IGN and Vandal Online have said. Unfortunately the game is 15 bucks as grained on by The Escapist and Joystiq who called it a downright scam. The problem is probably  that NES Remix has no depth. But if you still don't own a NES, this might be the way to go.
Overall only get this game if you want to.
NES Remix is rated E.

Critics Consensus:Paranormal Activity:The Marked Ones

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new Paranormal Activity drag and this time it's a spinoff!
Paranormal Activity has been going downhill according to critics and some other fans but not box office numbers. The last Paranormal Activity (Paranormal Activity 4) was the second highest grossing film of October of all time but the new one titled The Marked Ones is a new spinoff for the series. If it took them four entries just to do that I can't imagine how many entries they will make after this.
According to critics such as Newsday,New York Times,New  York Daily News, and Washington Post the new Latino spinoff feel kind of refreshes the franchise in some way or form but in the end it's always going to be the cheap thrills you expect from a Paranormal Activity and nothing new. You're getting what you came for basically.
Overall do not see this movie.
Paranormal Activity:The Marked Ones is rated R.
