Critics Consensus:Captain Phillips

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new Tom Hanks thriller Captain Phillips!
It's funny that Warner Bros. has released all of their Oscar bait into the ocean this month which such hits as Gravity,Prisoners, and now Captain Phillips. We now Tom Hanks usually will deliver an amazing performance in a movie like this but will this actually be Oscar worthy? Let's find out.
Captain Phillips is not a solid gold perfect movie like Gravity but it is really good. It currently has an 83 on Metacritic and a 95 on Rotten Tomatoes. Tom Hanks and the actors as the pirates show their talent many times and the movie's script makes the experience  very gripping and intense much like Gravity. This is truly a must see.
Overall see this movie.
Captain Phillips is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Gravity

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the new critically acclaimed thriller Gravity!
Every five years there's a movie that breaks new boundaries. Whether it's the wowing special effects, the amazing edge of your seat action or something that's never been done in film before it's praised as the best thing available in theaters for a long time. Surprisingly Gravity is that and it's even better than Children Of Men.
Gravity is an emotional intense masterpiece as critics such as ReviewsOnTheRun,RogerEbert.com and Rolling Stone. It's probably the most emotionally gratifiying and suspenseful movie you might ever see in your life and its super short just savoring you on the action. Gravity brings new hope for movies in the wake of all the sequels, prequels, and reboots that have come. Gravity brings new hope to the movie industry and is spectacular in every way.
Overall see this movie now.
Gravity is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Closed Circuit

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Focus Features new drama about a terrorist attack!
Focus Features hardly ever delivers a disappointment. Whether it's the stop-motion phenomenon's from Laika or the biblical films that are sleeper hits Focus usually hits the right notes. Like even The World's End came out last week and that was amazing.
Unfortunately that does not work this time Closed Circuit is not a bad movie and the acting is certainly there it's just that the script is predictable and full of plot holes as NPR and New York Daily News stated. Closed Circuit definitely has potential it's just it should have been more fleshed out.
Overall see this only if you want to.
Closed Circuit is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Now You See Me

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Now You See Me a new heist movie!

Now You See Me looks cool, interesting and promising. And then you realize it's made by the same guy who made Clash Of The Titans and the Transformer movies. Then your expectations fall from the Empire State Building.

Now You See Me's actors have barely any screen time, as ReviewsOnTheRun stated. It might be somewhat enjoyable as ReelViews said but I would not recommend it. It was called a rare form of bad by Ben Bolea so you might want to think about that.
Overall see this if you really want to.
Now You See Me is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Pain And Gain

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is a new Michael Bay movie!

So it has been more than five years since a Michael Bay movie has been made that is not Transformers. Pain And Gain is based off an actual newspaper article where personal trainers get caught in crime. Well we ran out of remakes, books, and video games so let's do newspaper articles.
Michael Bay usually gets his movies slammed so it's weird that Die Hard 2 has a higher score than Transformers on Metacritic but you know both movies are not amazing. Somehow Miami Herald said that Pain And Gain was Michael Bay's best movie,Chicago Sun Times praised the writing but the overuse of slo-mo technology and explosions make the movie kind of annoying.
Overall see this movie if you want to.
Pain And Gain is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Mama

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Mama a new horror movie that as cliche written all over it. But is still getting good reviews.
Guillermo Del Toro is one hella smart guy. Unfortunately he lacks in producing because his latest movie Mama about some demon kids living the woods has a 62%. That's not horrible but I think he's putting all his attention into Pacific Rim nowadays.
The only reason that Mama is getting good reviews is that it is cliche as The New York Times stated but manages not to scare with gore but to scare with other tactics. Some other movies have done this (House At The End Of The Street) but it has not really worked. Glad to see that Mama can change the game.
Overall see this movie.
Mama is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus: The Last Stand

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Last Stand Arnold Schwarzenegger's new movie!
The Last Stand is aptly named. If it fails at the box office it will be Arnold Schwarzenegger's last stand. If you have been under a rock for twenty years but still know who Arnold is, he was involved in a affair, became governer and started his movie career back. Wow.
The Last Stand stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Knoxville is about a sherrif against a drug cartel. As ReviewsOnTheRun explained it is a weak movie in Schwarznenegger terms but it's nice to see him back. Even if he is a dick.
Overall only see this movie if you want to.
'The Last Stand is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Savages

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Savages the newest movie by famous director Oliver Stone.
It's funny when a film get's totally mixed reviews ranging from the lowest of the low to the highest of the high. For some reason that happened to the  movie that came out this Friday, Savages which is getting what I just stated is somewhat OK. Salon.com had the most interesting metaphor for what Savages is saying that it was like dinner made by a 7 year old. Reviews On The Run's Victor Lucas hated the movie saying that it was stupid while the New York Magazine called the film impressive. Also when I meant the lowest of the low I really meant that. The San Francisco Chronicle gave the film a 0 while it still holds a 62 on Metacritic.
Overall if you want to see Savages see it but Oliver Stone has done a big disappointment to his fans because this should have been as good as Scarface,Dave and Midnight Express.

Savages is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Just from the title this movie sounds cheeseball. Just from the reviews this movie sounds like a dead raccoon. Here's some examples to show you proof. The A.V. Club called it laughable and gave it a 42. The Chicago Tribune gave it a 50 stating a complaint about the cliches. The worst of all The New York Post's Kyle Smith gave it a 0 out of 100 saying that he would rather be gargling nitroglycerine then see this movie again. Ouch that sounds painful.
Overall Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is the fail of the week you could say. Who knows? This might win a Razzie.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is rated R.

Critics Consensus: The Woman in the Fifth

NOTE: We will have more posts than usual this week because of the crowded summer release schedule.
Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular daily critics opinion for the newest video games and movies! Today it is The Woman In The Fifth a new indie thriller.
The Woman In The Fifth is one of the best movies of the week. Just because this week failed for good movies. With a 63% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 54 on Metacritic .The New York Times and Cinemalogue.com praised the acting and Newark Star-Ledger liked it saying that it will haunt you for a while. This movie, few liked and few hated. Most thought it was meh.
Overall see it if you want to and don't see it if you don't want to.

The Woman In The Fifth is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Chernobyl Diaries

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Chernobyl Diaries a new horror thriller from the people that directed Paranormal Activity.
Well bad news for fans of Paranormal Activity, this is the crappiest movie of the week. Why you ask well I have proof not only is Chernobyl Diaries short on suspense and originality, not as scary as most horror movies, dumb and boring. Oh and MovieLine,The A.V. Club,USA Today,The New York Times, and Slate hated it, the highest score for it is a 67.
Overall wipe this movie away from your mind. You should never see this ever. Even if you are a bad person you do not deserve this atrocious movie.

 Chernobyl Diaries is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Dark Shadows

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Dark Shadows, Tim Burton and Johnny Depps remake of the 1970 TV soap.

Johnny Depp has starred in many of Tim Burtons movies. Edward ScissorHands, Sleepy Hollow, Alice In Wonderland, and now Johnny Depp is wanting to turn back to creepy old Burton for the movie adaptation of Dark Shadows a 1970 TV soap. Well first of all thank god Johnny Depp was in this movie. The movie has gotten a 5.0 average from critics similar to Alice In Wonderland. Johnny Depp practically saves this movie. Why you ask? The movie is a drag. The movie is uninspired, long, and the plot is a mess. Though if you are a fan of Tim Burton you aren't gonna give a crap.
Overall see Dark Shadows if you may but you will probably be waiting for this movie to end half way through.

Dark Shadows is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus: Mother''s Day

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Mother's Day a new horror movie from the people that brought you SAW.

This is the movie for the SAW fan who is now wanting more. When SAW 3D came out in 2010 that was permitted to be the last movie in the series. Do some of your research and you found this movie from some of the same people that made some of the SAW movies. SAW 3D sucked. (Metacritic:24 Rotten Tomatoes:10%) This is meh.  The movie itself is well acted but the script is crappy,a disastrous plot, and repetitive violence.
Overall please don't see this movie. If you are a SAW fan take my word with a grain of salt and have eyeballs and other body parts fly at you in bloodshed on the screen for an enjoyable amount of time.

Mother's Day is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Safe

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Safe a new action movie starring none other than Jason Statham.

Jason Statham aims a gun and shoots just like he does in every movie. This time he's aiming at the poster! That's what makes a generic movie. Safe which has a 54.5 average critics score is one that you can toss in that pile. This is why Safe is not the movie you should see this week here are a few reasons that you can glimmer on. Safe isn't logical,a regular action movie, and Statham should get a better role. Though it is a bit fun to watch.
Overall if you are a fan of Jason Statham of course you are going to like this movie. Others not so much.
Safe is rated R.

Critics Consensus: The Raven

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Raven a new horror movie based on Edgar Allen Poe.

The Raven is about a series of murders based around Edgar Allen Poe's writings and Edgar Allen Poe has to try to stop them. The Raven is probably the worst of the runt of this week's movies. The reason The Raven isn't total crap is that the costume design is good and the first few minutes of the movie are interesting. Just the first few minutes. The Raven suffers from many problems like a stupid plot, pointless dialogue, and the special effects look horrific.
Overall if you are looking for a good horror movie go with The Cabin In The Woods.
The Raven is rated R.

Critics Consensus: The Moth Diaries

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is The Moth Diaries a new vampire horror movie.
The Moth Diaries has gotten really really bad scores from critics and might go on to win a Razzie. The reasons this movie sucks is it's a ripoff of Twilight, the storyline sucks, it is not fun to watch, it's predictable and the actors deliver a crappy performance.
Overall if you want to see this movie i have one word for you. DON'T.

The Moth Diaries is rated R.

Critics Consensus: Lockout

Hi! We are Critics Consensus. We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Lockout a new action flick starring Guy Pearce.
Lockout is about a ex government agent who is assigned to rescue the government's daughter in a prison in space. Lockout hasn't been getting good reviews; and it's average score is a 4.5.
The good things about the movie are it's fun to watch but only fun if you forget that what is happening in the movie is super stupid. It also shows that Guy Pearce can be a reliable actor.
The bad things are the ending goes way to fast, is ridiculous, generic, and has annoying one liners.
So if you want to see Lockout really bad you can but don't remind yourself that the movie itself is crazy and stupid.
Lockout is rated PG-13.
