One Of The Worst:Sabotage

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Open Road strikes again!
In case you were wondering about the title at the top Open Road films is a film publisher like Screen Gems that can't catch a break. They've only made a handful of good films like Side Effects and End Of Watch and the rest are pretty much bad. Forgettable movies like Hit & Run,The Host,Machete Kills,Homefront are all on their record. So now they've got a new flick with some action and shooting and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
We knew this wasn't gonna pan out well. Sabotage is filled from the top to bottom with countless cliches, poor acting, dumb action, and no real good or bad guy to root for. It's easily gonna flop and put Arnold Schwarzenegger in more debt. But it doesn't matter. He's made so much from Terminator he can pay for fifteen dog craps like these. I can already smell the 22% and universally bad reviews.
Overall do not see this movie.
Sabotage is rated R.

Critics Consensus:Cesar Chavez

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Cesar Chavez movie!
If you took a glance at the poster of Cesar Chavez you would think it would be amazing. It looks like it has a great cast, and a step in the right direction for auto-biographical movies. However when I looked at the score for Cesar Chavez on RottenTomatoes it hurt to look. It's like they butchered the Cesar Chavez story.
And thats because they did. Sadly, Cesar Chavez has stale acting, effortless direction, and not very dramatic overall for an auto-biographical movie. It's not the worst Lionsgate could do with the Cesar Chavez timeline but with a little bit more production, effort, and less budget constraints, its easy to say that this could have been a movie for the ages.
Overall only see this movie if you really want to. Maybe Matinee it.
Cesar Chavez is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Noah

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Bible epic Noah!
Religon based movies are usually a hit or a miss. Theres fantastic ones like Ben-Hur and David and Bathsheba and then theres horrible ones like Son Of God,Sodom and Gomorrah and ones that pretty much kill an actors career for being anti-semitic and causing controversy but still making big bucks at the box office Cough (Passion Of The Christ) Cough. Anyway let's check out if Russel Crowe of Robin Hood fame can handle a Bible based epic.
Thankfully Noah isn't the controversial atrocity everyone thought it was going to be for some reason and has actually been praised for it's fantastic acting especially the underrated Emma Watson and it's gripping action. However some critics such as ReelViews, Time Out New York, and Daily Star complained about it being too silly, unbelievable, and long. However a 68 on Metacritic and a 76% on RT cant lie.
Overall see this movie.
Noah is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Bioshock Infinite:Burial At Sea;Episode 2

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the finale to Bioshock Infinite!
Bioshock Infinite has had a lot of rough turns. It sells amazing but then takes 8 months to get DLC out. The DLC gets mixed reviews for being short and then shortly after Irrational Games closes. Than the final episode of Burial At Sea is released. Lets see if it's better than the first one because in this one you get to play as Elizabeth!
Burial At Sea Pt2 is substantially higher than Burial At Sea Pt1 on Metacritic all for the right reasons. It's got wonderful level design, enjoyable gameplay, great graphics, art design, and sound design. Pretty much everything a Bioshock fan could ask for. Except with Irrational closing and all that critics like GameTrailers,IGN, and God Is A Geek say that this  is the biggest surprise we've had from Bioshock for a while.
Overall get this DLC.
Burial At Sea Part 2 is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Diablo 3:Reaper Of Souls

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new expansion pack for Diablo 3!
Most people were insanely disappointed with Diablo 3 due to the server issues, non improvement over the other games, and mainly not being worth the decade long wait and all the delays it had. But now there's a new Diablo 3 expansion pack\DLC that promises it will be what Diablo 3 was supposed to be and bring you back to Diablo. Lets see if all that was the truth.
The short answer is mostly. The long answer is Diablo 3 Reaper Of Souls isn't the gigantic messup that Diablo 3 was as it has no server issues or auction house, but still has some gripes like the price and same Diablo 3 fare in-between as explained by GamingTrend,IGN and GameInformer. It's a nice package in between but for many non-hardcore Diablo fans this falls on the expensive side.
Overall only get this if you want to.
Diablo 3:Reaper Of Souls is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Muppets Most Wanted

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Muppets movie!
The Muppets was one of the few surprisingly good movies in 2011 in a year without many good movies. Now the Muppets is back but let's see if Hollywood made it another boring cheesy sequel without any direction or laughs or a great adventure for the kids and the family.
Well The Muppets:Most Wanted isn't the big bombastic sequel Muppets fans, kids or anybody in particular was looking for but it delivers enough laughs, celebrity cameos, and great performances and voice acting to keep us engaged until the boring last act as stated by Reviews On The Run. Fortunately when critics are having this much fun it's hard to bring it down that much as it has a 77% on RottenTomatoes and a 61 on Metacritic.
Overall see this movie if you have the time.
Muppets Most Wanted is rated PG.

Critics Consensus:Divergent

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new adaptation of the young adult hit Divergent!
Many people are predicting Divergent to be the next Hunger Games like hit. It's got a somewhat same plot, that same young adult fanbase, and aspiring young adult actors that could be the next Jennifer Lawrence. However thats not happening. Why? Divergent has a 48 on Metacritic and a 40% on RottenTomatoes.
It's been chastised for it's dumb script, monotone direction, and no coherence or depth. One of the few things the critics have praised is the acting but even that's not up to par with The Hunger Games when you have a horrible script. It may be candy for fangirls but really Divergent is just another generic book adapted movie and trust me you can do much better than this.
Overall only see this movie if you really want to.
Divergent is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Infamous Second Son

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new super-powered behemoth Infamous:Second Son!
The long awaited reason to get a Playstation 4 is finally here but is it too ambitious? The reason I'm asking this is because Infamous:Second Son isn't like the other Infamous games. Instead of staying with one power and variants of that power, you get more and more powers over time such as smoke, concrete, neon and fire. Anyway Let's find out if it is.
Infamous Second Son is getting somewhat mixed reviews. Mostly critics such as VideoGamerTV are complaining about how the game introduces some of the powers late like the neon powers (6 hours in) and how it's somewhat repetitive. However it is a great game to get for your Playstation 4 and is definitely worth the money for the great voice acting, story, and graphics. Speaking of graphics the game has been praised for that the most as the Space Needle is beautiful from a view as well with the environments.
Overall get this game.
Infamous Second Son is rated T.

Critics Consensus:Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new zombie styled Ninja Gaiden!
It's obvious to think that Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is not going to be good. The other two Ninja Gaiden games Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3 have been lackluster almost to the point of piss poor and the developer of the game (Spark Unlimited) hasn't really had a good track record with busts like Lost Planet 3,Legendary, and Turning Point. Turns out all this research was pointless. You were right on the nail.
Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is another Lollipop Chainsaw. The combat isn't too bad and the art style can be pretty cool sometimes but it gets repetitive. The game uses crude dialogue that gets annoying very fast, and gets super hard super fast. Of course that super hard super fast is probably a sex joke somewhere in Yaiba. Now I get why IGN,VideoGamerTV,PlayUK and Gamesradar hated this game.
Overall do not get this game.
Yaiba:Ninja Gaiden Z is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Metal Gear Solid 5:Ground Zeroes

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Metal Gear Solid 5!
A lot has come out of the very confusing reveal of Metal Gear Solid 5. We've learned that theres a new voice actor playing Snake,we've learned that it's being split into two games, and we've learned that the second one (The Phantom Pain) will not come out till the end of 2015. But hey! At least we get Metal Gear Solid right?
Kind of. Reviews on Ground Zeroes have kind of been mixed partly due to the fact that the whole game can be completed in less than 20 minutes on a speedrun and about 3 hours on a normal without sidequests playthrough. This wouldn't be that big of a deal to many people if the game wasn't 40 bucks. Some critics such as IGN and VideoGamerTV have parodied the controversy. The game is great, beautiful, innovative, and clearly shows us what Phantom Pain will offer. However when youre paying forty bucks all that stuff kind of falls down the drain.
Overall only get this if you want to.
Metal Gear Solid 5:Ground Zeroes is rated M.

Critics Consensus The Review Detective:Yoshis New Island

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Yoshis New Island!
A Nintendo game is getting mixed reviews?! And it's not a Mario Party or Wii Party?! Better call the Nintendo Police BRING BRIIIIING BIING No seriously why is this happening? Let's look into it on a special edition of Critics Consensus called Critics Consensus:The Review Detective. If you had a better name you could tell me!!
Any way Yoshis New Island surprisingly isn't made in house. It's made by some developer called Arzest who has only made 3DS Mii features. Some Employees from Arzest worked on Yoshis Island DS, which is pretty good but the 3DS is more advanced technology and things always change overtime. Also it seems like this game was rushed which feels very rare for a Nintendo game I might add because critics such as Pocket Gamer UK and IGN have complained about the easy difficulty and uninspired gameplay. GameInformer and Edge even gave it some of the lowest scores of the bunch and said the 3D and graphics were shoddy.
Well not every 3DS game can be good right? Hopefully Nintendo doesn't take all the blame on this one.
Overall only get this game if you want to.
Yoshis New Island is rated E.

Critics Consensus:Veronica Mars

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Veronica Mars reboot!
Last year all the way back in March, the amazing Kristen Bell wanted a million dollars to reboot Veronica Mars into a movie. If you don't know what that is it's a classic teen murder mystery filled with comedy, suspense, and average teen tropes all sculpted into a 3 season show that was cancelled abruptly. Ever since then fans have been crying to get it back. Let's see if it's the thing that we and them wanted.
Totally. Mostly. At least.  Its got a 62 which is pretty fair and it's gotten 21 positive reviews and 11 mixed reviews. It's got great acting, and  doesn't have the most amazing script but it still has that Veronica Mars charm. It plays like a solid episode of the series as the A.V. Club says and it's probably a good treat for fans unless they spent  too much on that Kickstarter. Except if  they are a Veronica Mars fanatic.
Overall see this movie if you want to.
Veronica Mars is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Need For Speed

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Need For Speed movie!
Let's be obvious here. There has never really been any good video games movies. The only halfway decent one was Mortal Kombat and even that has aged pretty badly too. So Dreamworks is rolling out a new Need For Speed movie starring Breaking Bads finest Aaron Paul. Let's see how it is. Obviously not very good if you do the research even before hand.
We knew that Need for Speed would be formulaic and generic and it really is. Just listen to Washington Post,New York Post, and Rolling Stone. It's only gotten a handful of positive reviews (5) but at least it isn't as bad as House Of The Dead,Alone In The Dark or Max Payne. Ok maybe this movie isn't that bad anymore but its still not great.
Overall only see this movie if you really want to. It's not a cheap Fast And The Furious knockoff but you can do much better than this.
Need For Speed is rated PG-13.

Critics Consensus:Titanfall

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new acclaimed FPS from E3 that blew us away, Titanfall!
It's easy to say that last year's E3 was one of the best ever except for the no-show appearance from Nintendo. There were surprise announcements like the new Star Wars Battlefront,Mirrors Edge 2,Kingdom Hearts 3, but the biggest one of them all was Titanfall a supposed to be COD killer. Titanfall introduces you to parkour, mechs, and everything in between. However there has been lots of controversy over the 1080p and only 12 players in a match. Let's find out if Titanfall is really all it's claimed to be or just another stinker in the dust.
Wow. It looks like unsurprisingly Titanfall is the killer app for the Xbox One. It's fast paced and frantic in the best ways and reinvents the first person shooter genre. Surprisingly the Titans aren't overpowered and it's easy to get kills in between not having one of them. EGM praised it for being established in the best way and Game Informer said it was the most entertaining first person shooter in years.  Wow Microsoft. You really pulled a rabbit out of the hat here.
Overall get this game. Even get an Xbox One for it.
Titanfall is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Dark Souls 2

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the sequel to the world renown cult classic Dark Souls!
In anticipation for the Dark Souls 2 review scores let me give you a history lesson about the Dark Souls series. Demon Souls originally appeared as a Playstation 3 exclusive from Atlus and turned into a fan favorite due to it's addicting soul crushing (no pun intended) difficulty. However Atlus never releases games on the Xbox 360 and Demons Souls sold well but they could not make a sequel to Demons Souls due to Sony hating the franchise for the difficulty. So Namco picked up the developer of the game From Software to make a spiritual successor to the game and here we are today. Dark Souls 2.
Wow just Wow. Dark Souls 2 is currently the highest rated game of the year and has a higher score than Titanfall. It's crazy that Dark Souls 2 can shine while being on last-gen consoles but it's probably due to the refined additions to newcomers, the insanely challenging difficulty and the varied and cool enemy types. Not to mention theres also redefined multiplayer, and actual plot, and a creative and well-thought out art design. So it's not obvious why it has a 90 on Metacritic or why critics are even going so far to say its a game of the year contender, a game of the year or even one of the best games of all time. It's just all in the magic of Dark Souls I guess.
Overall get this game now. Buy it Buy it now!
Dark Souls 2 is rated T.

Critics Consensus:Mr Peabody & Sherman

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new animated film based off of the classic 60s TV Show!
A lot of the time it's hard to reboot something that's very old into something that both kids and adults that have seen the original will like. Mr. Peabody & Sherman is attempting this but we know for sure. Mr.Peabody will never be as hilarious as the minions.
They won't come close but they will succeed. Mr. Peabody & Sherman currently has a 77 on RottenTomatoes and a 59 on Metacritic. It's nowhere as good as The Lego Movie but still an enjoyable ride from the beginning to the end that will most likely have your kids laughing while you are actually paying attention to the movie and not sleeping or on your phone cause it's not that bad.
Overall see this movie if you have kids.
Mr Peabody & Sherman is rated PG.

Critics Consensus:The Grand Budapest Hotel

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new film from Wes Anderson!
Wes Anderson has now become a household game in indie film making thanks to films like Fantastic Mr Fox and Moonrise Kingdom. Now his new film The Grand Budapest Hotel is out in limited release and it's breaking records once again. Any guesses why?
Well mostly because its probably the first great indie film of the year. It's funny and inventive as Wes Anderson always is and has been praised from such critics as Los Angeles Times,Time Out New York, and The New York Times who all gave it nearly perfect scores due to it's unexpected and downright great script, it's great cinematography and once again small name actors in big great roles. This one's definitely a one to book.
Overall see this movie.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is rated R.

Critics Consensus:300:Rise Of An Empire

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new sequel to 300, 300:Rise On An Empire!
300 was somewhat of a cult classic back when it released in 2006. It wasn't an insanely good movie but the special effects were ahead of it's time and the cool action scenes are to die for. Now the director of such disappointments as Man Of Steel and Sucker Punch returns in the new 300 sequel. And a little news for you. Zack Snyder can't catch a break.
300 is getting mostly negative reviews because it takes place before, during, and after 300 and makes the whole thing very confusing as stated by ReviewsOnTheRun. Unfortunately it's more of the same with cliches on top of other cliches and just feels like a very weak cash-in and could have been a made for DVD film. The film is also repetitive as stated by Film.com which gave it a 0 and the performances are very stale and dumb.
Overall it looks like this one isn't for Sparta.
300:Rise Of An Empire is rated R.

Critics Consensus:The Walking Dead:Season 2 (Episode 2)

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the next episode of the acclaimed Walking Dead game!
The Walking Dead series of games by Telltale has took off like noone expected. Before that Telltale was known for creating boring point and click adventure games and also slaughtering the Jurassic Park license in the atrocious Jurassic Park:The Game. So it's easy to say that not a lot of people had faith in the Walking Dead. But turns out it was amazing, became a hit, and even won many GOTY editions.
So how is this episode? Rumors are that a character returns in this episode and sh"t hits the fan aswell. According to IGN, The Walking Dead builds up by introducing the characters in the last episode making it seem like every move is your last with them. The dialogue and writing are better than ever and show just how talented Telltale is. We now feel sorry if we ever judged them.
Overall get this game.
A House Divided is rated M.

Critics Consensus:South Park:The Stick Of Truth

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new long awaited South Park RPG!
It's obvious to say the road for South Park:The Stick Of Truth has been a pretty bumpy ride. The game was announced back in December 2011 and was supposed to come out sometime during 2012. Then it was delayed and delayed and delayed one more time and then it was ready for release. However that never happened because THQ the publisher of the game was in financial distress. So the rights were sold to Ubisoft and then the game got a release date. And then it was delayed AGAIN because Ubisoft wanted Obsidian to overhaul some of the mechanics to make it be better. Well all of that actually worked as this is the highest rated South Park game of all time and the highest rated TV show based game too.
While the game has framerate and save bugs due to it being on last-gen consoles its easy to say that South Park:The Stick Of Truth is a contender for Game Of The Year. The mechanics are slick, the town is fun to explore and the game contains so many references its even hard for a South Park aficionado to find them all.
And if you dont trust me you could trust GameInformer,IGN, The Globe And Mail or USA Today for praising this game for all those reasons.
Overall get this game.
South Park:The Stick Of Truth is rated M. (obviously)

Critics Consensus:Plants Vs. Zombies:Garden Warfare

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is the all new Plants Vs Zombies third person shooter?!
When EA acquired Popcap back in 2011 they also gave them a large sum of money. Instead of making another good simple mobile game they made a third person shooter? It freaked everybody out at E3 and now it's the first big Xbox One game of 2014. Let's see if this wacky idea actually works.
Apparently it does. Plants Vs Zombies:Garden Warfare has been praised as a breath of fresh air, has a 76 on  Metacritic and has gotten two 10's. Rev3Games's Scott Bromely praised the mechanics, weapons, and characters but put only one negative which was that only one class has melee attacks. While this does make it slightly unfair Plants Vs Zombies:Garden Warfare is a good reason to buy Xbox One. And Titanfall too.
Overall get this game.
Plants Vs Zombies:Garden Warfare is rated E10+.

One Of The Worst:Rambo:The Videogame

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is Rambo:The Worst Videogame Of 2014.
It's another One Of The Worst ladies and gentlemen where I talk about an atrocious thing that has just come out. And what better way to start the first One Of The Worst in 2014 by talking about a god-awful licensed game. Let's see why
  • The graphics are reminiscent of a Wii game and that's a compliment
  • The game is an onrails shooter which means you can move, you can only shoot
  • It's made by a publisher that only does shovelware
  • The game isn't really based off of any scenes of the movies even though it says it on the back of the box
  • The music is used in the same level over and over again
  • The difficulty spikes up for no reason
  • Character models wouldn't be acceptable 5 years ago
  • The game uses quicktime events instead of actual gameplay
  • The game rips off elements from Gears Of War
And thats why. Keep in mind those pieces of evidence are from critics such as AngryJoeShow,Videogamer.com,Inside Gaming,Nerdcubed and more. Goddamn this is an awful game.
Overall it's obvious not to get this game.
Rambo:The Video Game is rated M.

Critics Consensus:Non-Stop

Hi! We are Critics Consensus.  We post the regular critics opinion for video games and movies! Today it is an all new action thriller on a plane with Liam Nesson!
The coolest and probably most ludicrous way to explain Non-Stop and make someone excited for it would be Taken mixed with Devil mixed with Snakes On A Plane. OK. Maybe that didn't work. And Non-Stop didn't work all the way as it has a 58% on RottenTomatoes and a 56 on Metacritic. Let's see why.
According to New York Daily News,The Guardian, and The Globe And Mail Non-Stop barely makes sense most of the time with it's inane script, weak dialogue, and it not being a train wreck only because of the great badass performance from Liam Nesson. Looks like Non-Stop still is a non-stop action thrill ride but had to make some sacrifices that affect the quality in order to get there.
Overall only see this movie if you want to.
Non-Stop is rated PG-13.
